We have bought both over the years. Depending on of course budget and if it is new school wear, holidays, or supplemental. Thomas tends to inherit Parker's stuff anyhow so he gets new clothes about twice a year from the store. Parker a little bit more because he grows like a bean stalk!

What are your thoughts on consignment versus new clothing? Any preference?

I like consignment for nicer stuff. I don't want spend a fortune on a Christmas or Easter outfit. But, for everyday clothes, we tend to go to Old Navy, Kohl's, even Wal-Mart. I feel like I can get more wears out of the clothes for more kids by spending a little more to buy new. If I buy used play clothes, they probably won't last through as many kids. (And when you desire to have six kids like we do, that is something to think about...)

I am a total consignment junkie! We did the name brand for Jacob at first, but after a while it just got way TOO expensive. Now I do OUAC and the other stores and I religiously do the Twice -As-Nice Sale at the armory. We do buy some new stuff, mostly Gymboree when there are BIG sales. Oh and whatever the grandparents buy. If they want to spend their money, more power to them.

We do a mix. If the clothing is in good conditon..no rips, stains, etc. we pass it down through the children. We have many Rubbermaid tubs that we use to sort clothes by gender and age catagory, seasons, etc. Staying organized with this has really been a blessing over the years. It is easy to see who needs clothes and who will need them, etc. and if we are lucky we will already have a few outfits in storage. Generally, we will try to find clothing used first. But I am picky..it has to show some good life left in it. (I still have plenty of clothes that have been through several of my own children that were given to us used). If we cant find it used we try to find a good sale. Unless I am desperate (meaning..the kid really NEEDS it NOW) we dont buy clothing that isn't on sale. The only exception is socks, shoes and undergarments; nough said. OOH.. the other exception is grandma.. grandma has a Kohls card and likes to use it to bless her grandkids.

Someone mentioned "Once Upon A Child", just thought I would add our favorite consignment shop is "Bearly Broken In" on Morgan Avenue (next to Subway). They get really nice, name brand items in, and if you are looking for something in particular, the owner will contact you if right away if she gets it in. I have found this store to be more organized, and have better merchandise. Just one mom's opinion.

I like that store too. That is where I got my stroller. Everything seems to be in good condition. I just am finding it hard to find clothes for the boys in their size anywhere right now.

I do the same as most have already stated! I love looking thru consignment shops and I love that big sale at the armory twice a year! My kids love it too! They love looking for that perfect treasure! But I will admit, I love the good sales at Old Navy and Children's Place too!

I consign or get hand-me-downs. There's no sense in paying way too much for an outfit that he is just going to ruin anyway. What's white again??? The last time I saw white was when my husband bought my son a $25 sweater for Christmas, it was stained the first time he wore it! LOL Anyone want some used baby cloths! LOL

I love OUAC and will now be checking out this place on Morgan Ave (thanks!). I do buy some stuff at Old Navy, Target, and even Gymboree because when they have a really good clearance sale I get better deals than the consignment shop! That stunned me when it happened at Gymboree. I normally wouldn't have even been in there because it is so pricey, but I had store credit from a Christmas gift that was the wrong size for my son and I SCORED on their clearance rack right when they marked everything down.
